Notable Events

Three Trustees, Douglas Brislane, Dermot FitzGerald and Ronnie Hurley are appointed by the

committee to oversee the major affairs of the Club.

May 75: John Dowling, Gotja Klatser, Noel Conroy, John Martin, Carol O Kelly and Jimmy

Conners certified as Club Divers.

March - June 75: L.S.A.C. divers Mike Kerrison, Douglas Brislane, Cyril Foster, Tom Phayer and

Ronnie Hurley gained National Media coverage for the successful recovery, from a depth of 65 ft. of sunken Guinness Barge 45M. The Barge foundered, with the sad loss of two lives, at the notorious Parker s Point on Lough Derg, in a storm, reckoned by local residents, to have been the worst of the century, on the night of December 1st. 1946. After nearly 30 years in the hold of the sunken vessel, the stout poured dark black, with a frothy head, but proved to be quite undrinkable! To add to the drama of the occasion, shortly after the barge had been raised to the surface, and dragged to shallower water, a raiding party of pirates made off with over a dozen of the Guinness barrels during the night.

Location problems with the new compressor see it sited in the Olde Tom Bar, back to the

Redemptorists Monastery and finally in Noel Conroy s house on the Ennis to Kilkee road, all resulting in much aggravation.

July 75: Happy union in marriage of active Club members Chelle O Brien and John Dowling.

23- 9- 75: Very successful Social evening held in the Crabtree , Newmarket on Fergus.

Sept. 75: Mike Hynes, Frank Harty, Aiden Mc Fadden, John Moylan and Ray Stewart qualified as

Club Divers.

7/8- 11- 75: Annual Dinner Dance and 4th Irish Open Photographic Contest, organized by Mike

Hynes were held in the Two Mile Inn .

Dec. 75: Gotja Klatser, who, in her many years in the Club, contributed so much of her time and

energy, received a presentation from the members, before setting off on her travels to distant lands.
