19- 1- 73: Some amendments to Club Constitution at A.G.M. including a membership fee rise to £5

( 6.35) p.a.

 

9/11- 2- 73: Sealions major National Symposium on spear fishing held in Two Mile Inn ,

featuring two days of pool training, lectures and discussion.

 

9- 3- 73: New 8 week course for potential Club Divers organized by D.O. Mike Kerrison opened

with a most interesting talk on Marine Life by Milltown Malbay fisherman Joe Casey to which all club members were invited. At the Course and also by way of Club Circular, Mike stressed the new diving horizons, which were about to be revealed to local divers with the acquisition of the new compressor.

 

30- 3- 73: Very successful Bring and Buy sale towards purchase of new Compressor.

 

1- 4- 73: Annual Car Hunt.

 

11/25- 4- 73: Club hosted the Barakuda Diving Group, made up of 30 youth development

leaders from Germany. As a result, local Shannonside Tourism agreed to assist the Club in it s endeavors to acquire the badly needed compressor with a donation of £100 ( 127).

 

April 73: New Bauer portable compressor, featuring a 4 stroke petrol engine with an output of 5

cu.ft. per minute has been purchased directly from Barakuda at a cost of £300 ( 380). This is a German diving equipment manufacturing company, which has set up a new Dive Centre in Kilkee, under the auspices of L.S.A.C. member Manuel Di Lucia. The compressor is being looked after by Tom Phayer in Mount St. Alphonsus Monastery, and is brought along to Fri. night s training in the Two Mile Inn. Filling fee: 4p ( 0.05) per 10 cu ft.

 

Fintan Mullowney, once more selected to represent his Country, this time for the European

Championships in Malta.

 

25- 5- 73: Race Night in aid of Compressor fund, in Two Mile Inn .

 

June Bank Holiday w/e featured diving off Valentia and the Skelligs.

 

24- 6- 73: L.S.A.C. Open Spear fishing competition won by Billy Nott, runner up was Manuel Di

Lucia. Fintan Mullowney finished 3rd. Tony Hackett bagged the prize for the most unusual fish when he weighed in a Garfish.

 

15- 7- 73: Club Novice spear fishing competition won by Tom Phayer.

 

12- 10- 73: Repeat showing of the most popular film Barrier Reef , after training.

 

Oct. 73: Dick Phillipps set off in his yacht Mata Hari 111 to sail single handed as far as Gibralter,

then back to G.B. disposing of his boat there and heading home to New Zealand to be joined there by his bride to be, Sheila, also from L.S.A.C.

 

Nov. 73: Excellent Club Journal edited by Tony Clarke appears.

 

10-11- 73: Third Irish Open Photographic Contest and Annual Dinner Dance in Two Mile Inn Manuel Di Lucia acted as M.C. for the dinner. Local Photographic winners were Manuel Di Lucia, John Dowling and Torleif Bjorkland. The Open classification, u/w photographer of the year was Warren Williams of London B.S.O.U.P. while Sean Magee of Mullingar S.A.C. won the Local class.
