31- 4- 71: Lecture in Marine Biology by Dr. Eric Edwards of B.I.M. in Woodfield House

June w/ e 71: Club outing to Valentia. Accommodation for the weekend was arranged, in

Holder s, by Tony Hackett at a cost of £ 1 ( 1.30) per head for the weekend. No, this did not include food!

 

27- 6- 71: L.S.A.C. Open Spear Fishing Championship in Kilkee, won by Bernie Brennan of

the Curragh.

 

Aug. w/ e 71: L.S.A.C. team of Fintan Mullowney, Dick Phillips and John Dowling came in

2nd and first Irish team in the Irish Open Spear Fishing Championships in Valentia. Fintan finished Individual Runner up and 1st Irish competitor in the event.

 

25- 9- 71: After much preparation in Tony Hackett s house in Blackwater, John Power, John

Duggan, Alan Brislane and Tony Hackett all qualified as Club Divers after major misunderstandings regarding arrangements for the test date etc. with the N.D.O. This resulted in the resignation (temporary) from the Club of the Hon. Secretary, himself an erstwhile Club Diver candidate.

 

23/24- 10- 71: Annual Dinner Dance and 2nd Irish Open Underwater Photographic Contest,

sponsored by Shannonside Tourism, was held in the Two Mile Inn.

 

 

 

 

12- 11- 71: Eight-week course, (2 hours per night), fee of £2 ( 2.55) to cover cost of tuition,

air and use of equipment, commenced in Two Mile Inn.

 

5- 12- 71: L.S.A.C Men s Squad, Denis Maurer, Michael Crowe, John Dowling and Fintan

Mullowney with Ladies Squad, Giolla McCann, Moire Mulcahy and Gotja Klatser, brought off a wonderful double, by winning both team events in the National Fin Swimming Gala in St. Vincent s pool, Glasnevin.

 

10- 12- 71: Fancy Dress Party in Ballyvalley Hotel, reported to have been a Social Success

but a Financial Failure! It made an £18 ( 23) loss.
